PTFE and PFA lined pipework is widely used for its exceptional universal corrosion resistance and high purity, making it indispensable in demanding chemical environments. When selecting PTFE and PFA lined pipework, it’s important to consider the processing technique, traceability, sustainability, and the level of support available. These factors directly impact the quality, durability, and reliability of the product.

At Corrosion Resistant Products Ltd (CRP), we believe that quality plays a role throughout production. As a manufacturer, we have full control over the selection of premium polymers and the application of advanced processing techniques, ensuring our products deliver the longest possible service life in most demanding chemical processes.

Processing Techniques:

When purchasing PFA/PTFE lined pipework, it’s important to consider the processing techniques as these can change significantly the performance of the fluoropolymers. At CRP, we focus on methods that enhance durability, surface finish, and permeation resistance.

CRP´s PTFE components are produced using paste extrusion, a method that begins with fine PTFE powder. The powder is chilled and mixed with a lubricant, then warmed to allow full wetting. It is pressed into a billet and extruded through a die to form a circular section, which is then sintered in an oven. This process yields the highest permeation resistance, the smoothest surface finish, and the best mechanical performance of all PTFE processing methods.

The PFA components manufactured at CRP use automated transfer moulding machines. This process involves heating tooling and steel inserts to 380°C and injecting molten PFA into the cavity. As the material cools and solidifies, it forms a robust, high-performance lining. When compared to PTFE this technique offers the highest permeation resistance, the smoothest surface finish and can be transfer moulded around complex geometries.

Understanding the strengths and limitations of each technique allows industries to make informed decisions and invest in pipework that is built to last. CRP’s use of paste extrusion and transfer moulding ensures superior product performance and longevity in the most difficult applications. Compared to other methods such as Isostatic moulding, Ram Extrusion and tape winding.

Traceability:

Full traceability should be prioritised when purchasing PTFE and PFA lined equipment and is a cornerstone of CRP’s commitment to quality. We maintain full visibility of materials and testing throughout the supply chain, ensuring reliability. All products are manufactured under ISO 9001:2015 standards and are designed to comply with the European Pressure Equipment Directive. Where applicable, products are CE marked.

Our comprehensive traceability system allows us to track each product back through its manufacturing tests and processes to the raw materials. This level of control is essential when serving industries where process and safety-critical components are the norm. When you purchase from CRP, you can be confident that every item has been rigorously tested and verified.

Sustainability:

With increasing demands for sustainability within supply chains across many industries, it’s important to look for companies that have processes in place to manage the environmental impact of their products production. Holding companies within the supply chain accountable for their carbon footprint is key to meeting industries ever increasing legislation.

CRP is proud to be ISO 14001 certified and has made significant strides in reducing its environmental footprint. Over the past year, we have transitioned to 100% renewable electricity, a key step towards our goal of becoming the number one sustainable supplier to the chemical industry. By holding ourselves accountable and continuously improving our processes, we help our customers meet their own environmental goals.
